I love creating art that is functional and beautiful, and today I had the idea to really let out my creative side. I had some beautiful flowers from a local fruit stand and one of my favorite butterfly books, creating some simple yet elegant still lifes.

A mushroom among a bed of flower petals can give off the image of something completely different.

One thing I love about macro photography is all the detail, as most of us really don’t notice the fuzzy nature of flowers until we get really close to them.

I became interested in capturing roses recently, and found this beautiful pink Amazing Grace rose that spoke to me.

Up Close, a rose can look quite different at the right angles as you can the many pedals and shapes.

Behind a rose can look just as unique as the front. From stem to pedals, it gives a new view on this popular flower.

A few months after getting some rain, I decided to travel to the local waterfall to see just how much water there was. This is where I found a tiny California tree frog floating around the pond near the Satwiwa waterfall.

This little California tree frog was quite surprised to see me with my big camera, but luckily stayed still long enough to get a good shot.

In a different contrast is the plant life of this local waterfall, which includes Aspidotis californica ferns.

This speckled Aeonium undulatum succulent is very unique in size, it’s a lot bigger than most of the succulents around it.

These small “Hen and chicks” succulents are actually quite popular in Southern California, and can be as small as dime.

Purple is my favorite color and this flower spoke to me with it’s subtle gradient of light and dark purple.

Self portraits

I was messing around in my studio the other day and did some creative self portraits inspired by butterfies. The last photo in this set is a double exposure self portrait done in photoshop, this was my first time doing a digital double exposure. I really like how it turned out and will be doing more double exposures.

Botanical colors

A deep and vibrant purple can almost look black, however against the sun light and yellow stems, it’s one of the most dark purple flowers I’ve seen yet.

This red bulb is ready to bloom into a beautiful flower.

Some people don’t take the time to really get close to plants and examine them, like this one for example. While it may be drooping, it is quite the beauty with it’s reds, greens, and yellows.

Title: Cotyledon orbiculata flower

This purple flower was beautiful from top to bottom, but one of the most unique things about it is the stems that come from the bottom, just inviting certain bees!
