I am somebody

A few months ago I joined an amazing group of photographers called “Fine Art Photography”. The group is geared towards fine art portraits. Joining this group has inspired me to start sharing and creating fine art portraits. I hope you enjoy this surreal photo.

A taste of Denmark in California

I visited Solvang last weekend. Downtown Solvang is a little taste of Denmark with warm California weather. My favorite part of the day was eating pastries at the local bakeries.

The Danish-styled architecture creates an authentic Danish atmosphere throughout Solvang.

The first of the village’s four windmills was built in the mid 1940’s after a local architect got back from a trip to Denmark.

Solvang has become a major California tourist attraction for a good reason. If you ever get the chance to visit I would highly recommend it.

Silhouette mountains

As I climbed down the gorge the view of the Boney mountains started to disappear behind the burned mountainside.

At the end of the hike the marine layer started rolling in creating beautiful silhouettes of the mountains.

I loved how the mountains looked through my sunglasses so I wanted to create an image showing the purple tint through the sunglasses.

This photo shows the fire damage in the valley, it looks like the dark burned brush is slowly taking over the green grass.

Climbing up the Rancho Sierra Vista waterfall

I climbed up the different levels of the waterfall, It was not an easy climb with all my camera equipment, but I made it with out falling into any pools of water. Southern California got rain recently making the falls lush with new green plant life.

I found around 30 California tree frogs hanging out in this upper pool. It was so nice seeing plant and animal life back in the area after the springs wildfire.

I felt like I was in a tropical paradise. All the different levels made this hike a lot of fun. I enjoyed climbing up the rocks and discovering more little pools and waterfalls.

This last photo is my favorite of the day. This was the top level of the waterfall and by far the biggest. I would recommend doing this hike to anyone who is in the area.

First half of the Rancho Sierra Vista waterfall hike

I was amazed at the beautiful view of the Boney Mountains on the first half of this hike. I love hiking in the Santa Monica mountains on sunny warm perfect California afternoons. I took the first two photos in this set early in the afternoon, on the way down to the waterfall.

As I started my descent down into the gorge below I took this photo of how empty the mountainside still is from the springs wildfire. The Boney Mountain peak is still a little green, a stark contrast to the dark brown mountainside.

I took the last two photos on the way back to the car at the end of my hike. The marine layer was rolling in as the sun set, covering the top of the Boney mountains in thick fog. This view is almost the same as the first photo in this set, yet the late afternoon light and fog created a completely different photo.

I took this last photo at the Satwiwa native American Indian culture center. This Chumash house is beautiful and gives me a good idea of how the Chumash lived in this area hundreds of years ago.

Macro seashells

I love collecting seashells from the beach. Each seashell is a little treasure from the sea. I wanted to show off a few of my favorite small seashells, by taking some extreme macro photos. I created simple minimalist images focusing on the true beauty of each seashell. The last photo in this collection is for scale, so you can get a good idea of how small the seashells in this collecting are.
